MEMORANDUM FOR COLONEL J. F. ESCUDE
SUBJECT: Visit of Dr. A. R. T. Denues, Lt
Col, USAR
1. Dr. A. R. T. Denues, Lt Colonel, USAR, of
Sloan-Kettering, will report to this Headquarters for two weeks active duty on 14 May.
He has made informal arrangements with General Wood and Mr. Crumb to
spend one week at WRAMC using library facilities. Colonel Steer of
General Wood's staff, advises that such duty may be less useful than
Dr. Denues believes, since Sloan-Kettering has a better library than
WRAMC has. However, Dr. Denues is welcome to spend time at WRAMC.
2. It
is my opinion that Dr. Denues' duty would best serve the
Chemical Corps if he received a problem assignment. The problem is:
How can we develop and standardize BW and CW agents when higher author-
ity requires human dose-response data, yet these agents are considered
by medical authorities to be too dangerous for human experimentation?
A "Fresh look" at this problem might bring out new and fruitful ap-
proaches.
3. I
shall have to depart for Dugway Proving Ground about noon
on 14 May. If I should miss Dr. Denues, would you please discuss this
assignment with him.
